Unfortunately (or fortunately?), Caro is splitting up the remaining part of LBJ's life into two more books: The Passage of Power goes to 1964, and his second term will be another book in a few years. As someone tearing through the first volume right now, are there any other excellent books you'd recommend on the era for a different perspective? I've already read Rick Perlstein's two books (Before the Storm and Nixonland) and found them just as enthralling.

I’m okay with Caro splitting up the rest of LBJ’s to two more volumes.  Apparently, The Passage of Power is over 700 pages, so we know that Caro isn’t leaving anything out.  As I’ve mentioned before, I just hope that he has both volumes finished or nearly finished because I know that Caro’s getting up there in years.  I’d hate for him not to finish the series.

I’ve gotten a pretty good start with suggestions for books from that era on my Essential Books page, so you might want to check that out.
