A friend of mine attends Whittier College an mentioned that they never say, "President Nixon attended school here." They simply say, "a former president attended school here." Thoughts? Thank you

I don’t think there’s any reason to be ashamed.  Richard Nixon came from practically nothing, overcame tremendous obstacles, and achieved a tremendous amount of success.  He was undoubtedly one of the most important and influential figures of the 20th Century.

Nixon was a brilliant man and could have been a great President, but his paranoia and his personal flaws led to his destruction.  That’s not an indictment of where he came from; it’s a judgment on what he became.
