Which presidents were the oldest child? The youngest child? A middle child? The only child?

I think the easiest way to do this is to just go by each President:

•George Washington:  Washington’s father had four children with his first wife before the 1st President was born.  Washington was the first of six children from his father’s second marriage.
•John Adams:
  Adams was the oldest of three children.
•Thomas Jefferson:  Jefferson was the third child and oldest son.  The 3rd President had nine brothers and sisters.
•James Madison:  The 4th President was the oldest of twelve children in his family
•James Monroe:  Monroe was the oldest of five children.
•John Quincy Adams:  JQA was the second child and oldest son of the 2nd President, John Adams.
•Andrew Jackson:  Jackson was the youngest of three children.  Both of Jackson’s brothers were born in Ireland and died from diseases contracted while fighting during the American Revolution.
•Martin Van Buren:
  Van Buren was the middle child, the third of five children and oldest son.  Van Buren also had three half-siblings from his mother’s first marriage.
•William Henry Harrison:  Harrison was the youngest of seven children.
•John Tyler:  The 10th President was the sixth of eight children.
•James K. Polk:  Polk was the oldest child in a large family.  The 11th President had nine brothers and sisters.
•Zachary Taylor:  Taylor was the third of nine children.
•Millard Fillmore:  The second our of nine children, Fillmore had an older sister and seven younger siblings.
•Franklin Pierce:  The 14th President was the sixth of eight children.  Pierce also had an older half-sister from his father’s first marriage.
•James Buchanan: Buchanan was the second oldest of eleven children. He had an older sister who died at the age of two in the same year that Buchanan was born.
•Abraham Lincoln:  The 16th President was the second of three children.  Lincoln had an older sister who died at the age of 20, and a younger brother who died at the age of 2 in 1813.
•Andrew Johnson:  Johnson was the youngest of three children.
•Ulysses S. Grant:  Grant was the oldest of six children.
•Rutherford B. Hayes:  The 19th President was the youngest of five children.
•James A. Garfield:  Garfield was the youngest of five children and had two sisters and two brothers.
•Chester Alan Arthur:  President Arthur was the fifth of nine children and the oldest son in his family.
•Grover Cleveland:  Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th President, was the fifth of nine children.
•Benjamin Harrison:  The grandson of the 9th President, Harrison was the second of ten children from his father’s second marriage.  From his father’s first marriage, Harrison had three half-siblings.
•William McKinley:  The 25th President was the seventh of nine children.
•Theodore Roosevelt:  TR was the second of four children and oldest son in his family which included a younger brother and two sisters.
•William Howard Taft:  President Taft was the second of five children from his father’s second marriage which produced four brothers and a younger sister.  Taft also had five half-siblings from his father’s first marriage.
•Woodrow Wilson:  The 28th President was the third of four children.  Wilson had two older sisters and a younger brother.
•Warren G. Harding:  Harding was the oldest of eight children.  The 29th President had two brothers and five sisters.
•Calvin Coolidge:  Coolidge was the oldest of two children and his younger sister died when she was 15.
•Herbert Hoover:  Hoover was the middle child of three siblings.  The 31st President had an older brother and younger sister.  Hoover’s parents died when the children were young, so the orphans were split up and raised by in the homes of different relatives.
•Franklin D. Roosevelt:  FDR was the only child from his father’s second marriage.  Roosevelt had an older half-brother from his father’s first marriage.
•Harry S. Truman:  Truman was the oldest of three children.  The 33rd President had a younger brother and sister.
•Dwight D. Eisenhower:  Eisenhower was the third of seven children — all of whom were sons.
•John F. Kennedy:  JFK had perhaps the most famous siblings.  Kennedy was the second of nine children.  He had an older brother, two younger brothers, and five younger sisters.
•Lyndon B. Johnson:  LBJ was the oldest of five children.  Johnson had three sisters and one brother.
•Richard Nixon:  The 37th President was the second of five children, all of whom were sons.  Nixon’s youngest brother is still living today.
•Gerald R. Ford:  Ford was an only child of his mother and father, who divorced shortly after he was born.  Ford was adopted by his mother’s second husband and had three half-brothers from that marriage.  Through his biological father, Ford had two half-sisters and one half-brother.
•Jimmy Carter:  The 39th President was the oldest of four children, with two younger sisters and one younger brother.
•Ronald Reagan:  Reagan had was the youngest of two sons.
•George Herbert Walker Bush:  Bush 41 was the second of five children.  He had one older brother, a younger sister, and two younger brothers.
•Bill Clinton:  Clinton was an only child.  He had a half-brother from his mother’s second marriage.
•George W. Bush:  Bush 43 was the oldest of six children.  Bush had three brothers and two sisters, one of whom died of leukemia when she was 4 years old.
•Barack Obama:  President Obama is the only child from his mother and father.  He has a half-sister from his mother’s second marriage.  Obama also has six half-brothers and one half-sister from his father’s wives in Africa. 

•Jefferson Davis (CSA): Confederate President Davis was the youngest of ten children.  He had three older brothers and six older sisters.
