270 To Win →
I don’t do a whole lot of research on the internet for my work, but I do like to give credit to websites that can be a big help.  I have 270 To Win in a prominent place on my bookmarks toolbar because it is an essential source for anything related to Presidential elections.  Even if you’re not doing research, check out the site to see electoral maps for every election since 1789...

Quotes About The Presidents: 12.31.10
“Your patriotic virtues have won for you the homage of half the nation and the enmity of the other half.  This places your character upon a summit as high as Washington’s…When the votes are all in a public man’s favor the verdict is against him.  It is sand, and history will wash it away.  But the verdict for you is rock, and will stand.” — Mark Twain on Grover...

Presidential Quote of the Day: 12.31.10
“I don’t know but that God has created some one man great enough to comprehend the whole of this stupendous crisis and transaction from end to end, and endowed him with sufficient wisdom to manage and direct it.  I confess that I do not fully understand and foresee it all.  But I am placed here where I am obliged, to the best of my poor ability, to deal with it.  And that being the...

amandamaea asked: Piggy-backing on one of the recent questions, if a single/divorced/widowed person was elected, what do you think the possibility of an Andrew-Shepherd-in-The-American-President-like scenario wherein a president dates in the White House? Would the fact that we live in an age consumed by Tabloids and TMZ make it impossible?

petrifiedlife-deactivated201103 asked: Were any of the Presidents bilingual? I was just thinking about the President's role as the representative of the United States to other countries, and how much more effective that position might be if he spoke those countries' languages. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that they weren't.

Quotes About The Presidents: 12.30.10
“Van Buren is as opposite to General Jackson as dung is to a diamond…He is what the English call a ‘dandy’.  When he enters the Senate chamber in the morning, he struts and swaggers like a crow in the gutter.  He is laced up in corsets, such as women in town wear, and, if possible, tighter than the best of them.  It would be difficult to say, from his personal appearance,...

ballershots asked: Oh man, I agree with you about Thune. Scary as hell how much like "the real deal" he looks. But I think his Christian faith may be a big turn-off. I know the right wingers will like that he's a fundamentalist, but this guy is almost fanatical. He makes a point to bring it up every chance he gets. Do you think that will hurt him with the independents and mild-mannered Republicans?
